LoanMate: EMI & Loan Tracker

Privacy Policy

Effective & Last Updated: 2 October 2026

LoanMate (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is developed by Geo Paulson. This policy explains what data the app handles, why it is requested, and how your privacy is protected.

Offline-First Philosophy: By default, LoanMate stores all financial records on your device only. There are no user tracking services, no ads, no analytics, and no third-party servers. The only optional network feature is Google Drive backup, which connects directly to your personal Google account when enabled.

1. Non-Financial Service Disclaimer

LoanMate is strictly a personal record-keeping, organizer, and financial calculation tool — it does not lend money, originate loans, process payments, transfer funds, or connect to any bank, NBFC, lending platform, credit bureau, or financial institution. Category labels you choose (such as personal, car, home, gold, education, credit-card EMI, KSFE chitty, LIC, business, or custom) are organizational names for tracking commitments you manage elsewhere. The app has no formal relationship with, and does not integrate with, any bank or lender.

2. Data You Enter (Local Device Storage)

Loan details you enter — title, lender name, principal amount, interest rate, tenure, EMI amount, payment history, due dates, notes, and custom categories — are saved in a private Room (SQLite) database and Encrypted DataStore on your device. This data stays on your physical phone and is never transmitted to us or any third parties unless you explicitly enable Google Drive backup or export files yourself.

3. Optional Google Drive Backup & Sync

LoanMate can back up your loan records to your personal Google Drive account if you explicitly sign in and turn on cloud sync in Settings. This feature uses restricted Google Drive API scopes (drive.file and drive.appdata):

4. Biometric App Lock

LoanMate optionally supports locking the app using your device's fingerprint or face unlock. This is managed entirely by Android's native BiometricPrompt framework. LoanMate never receives, collects, or stores raw biometric data; the OS simply provides a pass/fail authentication result.

5. Local Export & PDF Summaries

You can export your loan records as a JSON file or generate a PDF summary at any time using Android's FileProvider. These files are stored locally and are shared only when you explicitly select a destination (such as email or messaging apps).

6. Permissions Requested

Permission Purpose
POST_NOTIFICATIONS To post local EMI payment reminders.
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM To schedule exact EMI payment alerts before due dates.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED To restore scheduled reminders after device reboots.
INTERNET Used exclusively for optional Google Drive backup and checking for app updates via Google Play.
USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT For optional local biometric app unlock.
VIBRATE For haptic feedback and alert vibrations.

7. Third-Party Services & Strict No-Tracking Policy

LoanMate includes only official essential SDKs (Google Play Services for OAuth/Drive Sync, and Google Play In-App Updates):

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Deleting entries inside the app removes them immediately. Clearing app data in Android Settings or uninstalling LoanMate permanently purges all local data. Cloud backups on Google Drive can be deleted directly from your Drive account or by revoking access from your Google permissions page.

9. Children’s Privacy

LoanMate is intended for general adult financial management and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or applicable legal age).

10. Changes to This Policy

If our privacy practices change in future updates, this policy will be updated with a revised effective date.
